(재)라인문화재단(이사장 오정화)은 2024년 11월 12일(화)부터 2025년 2월 8일(토)까지 강남구 삼성동에 위치한 독립전시공간, 〈프로젝트 스페이스 라인〉에서 개관전 《모든 조건이 조화로울 때》를 개최합니다.
2008년 설립 이래, 예술인 지원과 문화활동 후원을 통한 문화예술 저변 확대에 힘써 온 라인문화재단이 새롭게 문을 연 〈프로젝트 스페이스 라인〉은 재단이 한국 미술문화 발전에 공헌하기 위해 2024년 강남구 삼성동에 설립한 전시공간입니다. 본 전시의 개막을 시작으로 프로젝트 스페이스 라인은 시각예술을 중심으로 장르와 형식을 횡단하는 다양한 문화 활동과 창작자들의 예술실천을 포용하며, 앞으로 동시대의 다양한 사회, 문화적 이슈들을 반영한 현대미술 전시와 관련 프로그램들을 이어나갈 계획입니다.
프로젝트 스페이스 라인의 개관전 《모든 조건이 조화로울 때》는 새로 축조되어 개방되는 전시공간의 장소성과 방향성에 대한 사유에서 시작되었습니다. 거대 도심의 중심상업지구가 갖는 획일화되고 표준화된 무장소성의 맥락에서 전시는 장소에 대한 무비판적 수용이 아닌 장소와 맺는 관계의 방식에 주목합니다. 과잉된 무장소성에 추상적이면서도 초월적인 공간감을 투사시킨 전시작품들은 관람객들로 하여금 그들만의 사적이고 고유한 의미를 발굴하게 하고, 그렇게 체화된 의미는 다시 자아를 일깨우게 합니다. 이렇듯 이들의 장소 경험은 전시 공간 안에서 지극히 능동적이고 주체적이며 작품에 대한 시각적 독해에서 확장하여 공간 전체에 대한 진정성있는 장소감의 체험을 의미합니다.
전시는 설치미술가 박기원, 보태니컬 아티스트 박소희 두 작가가 참여하여, 건축적 재료와 식물이라는 서로 완전히 다른 물성의 활용을 기반으로 한 작품들로 이루어집니다. 전시의 두 축을 이루는 작업 물질의 이질성에도 불구하고 조화로운 형식으로 유사한 장소감을 형성한 박기원과 박소희의 설치작업은 새로 개관한 프로젝트 스페이스 라인에 새로운 상상력과 장소성을 부여할 것입니다.
이번 전시에서 박기원 작가는 벽면에서 뿜어 나오는 빛으로 구성된 작품 〈중정〉과 건축의 요소들 사이에 존재하는 빈 공간을 감각하게 하는 신작 〈허공 속으로〉를 선보이며 전시공간에 시각적 경이를 불러 일으킴과 동시에 비일상적 감각과 경험의 사유를 제공합니다. 보태니컬 디자이너로 활동하고 있는 박소희는 박기원이 먼저 제시한 신작의 형식을 포용하며 장소를 매개로 새로운 대화를 시도하는 신작을 제시했습니다. 전시장 1층의 공간을 가로지르는 설치작품 〈COMPLEX_root〉과 2층 전시장의 바닥에 놓인 〈Le sol_soil〉는 식물 뿌리의 형태와 구조를 재해석하고 대상의 존재성을 역전시켜 생경한 뷰 포인트를 제시함으로써 공간에 대한 초월적 시선과 체험을 이끕니다.
(From November 12, 2024 (Tuesday) to February 8, 2025 (Saturday), Project Space Line, an independent exhibition space located in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, will host the opening exhibition “When All Conditions are Harmonious”.
Project Space Line, a new exhibition space established in 2024 in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Korea, by the LINE Cultural Foundation, which has been supporting artists and expanding the cultural scene through sponsorship of cultural activities since its establishment in 2008, is an exhibition space that contributes to the development of Korean art and culture. Starting with the opening of this exhibition, Project Space Line will embrace a wide range of cultural activities and artists’ artistic practices that cross genres and forms, with a focus on the visual arts, and will continue to host contemporary art exhibitions and related programs that reflect various social and cultural issues of our time.
Project Space Line’s opening exhibition, “When All Conditions are Harmonious,” began with a consideration of the place and orientation of the newly constructed exhibition space. In the context of the homogenized and standardized plasticity of the central business districts of mega-cities, the exhibition focuses on the way we relate to place rather than uncritically accepting it. By projecting an abstract yet transcendent sense of place onto the excesses of inorganic plasticity, the works in the exhibition invite visitors to discover their own private and unique meanings, and these embodied meanings reawaken their sense of self. In this way, their experience of place is highly active and subjective within the exhibition space, extending beyond a visual reading of the works to an authentic sense of place for the space as a whole.
The exhibition is comprised of works by two artists, installation artist Kiwon Park and botanical artist Sohee Park, whose work is based on the utilization of two very different materials: architectural materials and plants. Despite the heterogeneity of the materials that make up the two pillars of the exhibition, Park’s and Sohee’s installations, which create a similar sense of place in a harmonious format, will bring a new sense of imagination and place to the newly opened Project Space Line.
In this exhibition, Kiwon Park presents Jungjeong, a work composed of light emanating from the walls, and Into the Void, a new work that evokes the sense of empty space that exists between architectural elements, bringing visual wonder to the exhibition space, while also providing a reflection on extraordinary sensations and experiences. Park Sohee, who works as a botanical designer, embraces the form of Park Kiwon’s first work and presents new works that attempt to create a new dialogue through the medium of place. The installation works ‘COMPLEX_root’, which spans the space on the first floor of the exhibition hall, and ‘Le sol_soil’, which is placed on the floor of the second floor, reinterpret the form and structure of plant roots and reverse the presence of objects to present unfamiliar viewpoints, leading to a transcendental view and experience of space.
